BAT Vietnam partners with the Tobacco Institute to develop a tobacco raw material production program, contributing to creating sustainable livelihoods for farmers in the company’s value chain.
With rapid changes in the external environment, one of activities that BAT Vietnam always focuses on to bring more positive values to the society is enhancing the livelihoods of farmers in its supply chain, contributing to the prosperity of the community.
At the same time, this activity also helps improve the domestic Tobacco Leaf value chain by reducing production costs and improving product quality to meet BAT Group’s standards.
The business is collaborating with the Tobacco Institute to implement the sustainable tobacco production program so-called “Big Fields”. Specifically, BAT Vietnam delivers support with investment in a system of mechanized farming equipment for phases from tobacco planting by using machines, irrigation with drip systems, pesticide spraying with drones, cultivating with machines, to drying tobacco leaves with semi-automatic electric drying ovens; and building a field management system using field positioning technology, application software and digital technology to retrieve synchronous data provided by BAT Group.
Thereby, the Tobacco Institute can manage and monitor the production chain process of farmers from seeds to tobacco leaves after comprehensive and thorough drying. This program has helped BAT Vietnam to trace the origin of tobacco raw materials, which improves the production and business efficiency of farmers and the company.
With the orientation of expanding raw material production activities, BAT Vietnam also distributes agricultural supplies to farmer households, including seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc., and deploys investment in modern machinery and equipment systems and drying ovens, ensuring the production needs of the 2023-2024 season.
