Ensuring effective governance with the Vietnam Sustainability Report

British American Tobacco (BAT) Vietnam has released its Vietnam Sustainability Report 2023, marking the anniversary of its nearly 30 years of presence in Vietnam. This is the third consecutive year that BAT Vietnam has issued this kind of report. The report provides an overview of the company’s progress in integrating sustainability commitments into its business operations, and continuing to create values for stakeholders through clear goals and roadmaps of practical initiatives.

Some of the highlighted sustainability achievements in Vietnam Sustainability Report 2023 of BAT Vietnam include:

• Environment:
  • An average of 950 tonnes of CO₂e/year reduction (Scope 1 and 2) from 2021 to 2023 compared with 2020 baseline when investing in energy efficiency projects and management systems;
  • BAT-Vinataba JV was certified PAS 2060 for Scope 1 and 2 CO2e emissions;
  • 100% of electricity sourced for operations sites is renewable;
  • BAT-Vinataba JV was certified Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS);
  • 1,260,360 m³ of water was saved through application of drip irrigation system in tobacco cultivation;
  • Zero waste to landfill from direct operations;
  • 40 hectares of mudflat in Ca Mau Cape National Park was zoned to promote the natural regeneration and 2 hectares of terrestrial forest was covered with 1,000 saplings in Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve.
• Society:
  • Expanding to 180 hectares with 272 tonnes of green leaves in the “Ripe Top” project;
  • Increasing the positive impact on farmer livelihoods;
  • 50,851 beneficiaries from BAT Vietnam’s community investment activities;
  • 1,608 volunteer hours spent by employees for community investment activities.
• Governance:
  • 100% BAT Vietnam employees completed Standards of Business Conduct (SoBC) training and compliance sign-off procedure.
